Elegant Lidded Box
This elegant box was turned and carved from Western Australian Jarrah and New Zealand Rimu. The Jarrah was highly figured and contained some veins of sap. The sap veins were carved out of the base to make the veins in the "leaves" of the base. See the close-up of the base. The piece was finished with oil and wax with the base being quite dull and the top highly polished.

This is the Jarrah base of the elegant box. It shows the sap vein that was present in the block of timber. Rather than throw the block away, the sap vein was positioned to be the central vein in one of the leaves of the base. The base was finished with three coats of Danish Oil.
